Standing eggs

The pup kept telling me something about the turn of the new year which will happen on Feb 4 (which is why we have something planned) but I never realized what he was talking about until yesterday evening.

Li chun or lap chun (in Cantonese) is a solar term which signifies the beginning of Spring. If you're familiar with Chinese culture, then you'd recognize Qing Ming and Dong Zhi as some of these turn of seasons.

For me, it's not so much of the turning or beginning of any season, but more of an egg day :)

Li Chun is the one day of the year where it's supposedly easier to balance an egg on one end and it's said to only happen for 45 mins.

While it's a great idea to count the days to know how long we've been in each other's lives, but I think it's a much greater idea to make the best out of them instead :)

After all, as the puppy says - a great relationship has more misses than hits!

We headed back this weekend for my cousin, Wendy's wedding dinner. It was a fun night with the nieces and nephews... more particularly Cherrie girl :) She's such a little bundle of joy and it was so much fun that she actually wanted to hang out with us instead of mommy and daddy :)

Our new pad - Part III

We're almost done! Most of the big things were moved today, like the bed frame, fridge/kitchen stuff, our clothes and little things that go on the shelves (books, cds/dvds, plushies, you know the drill).

Lucky us, our friend heard that we were moving everything on our own, so she volunteered her husband to come and help us out. At first the pup and I said no because well, we didn't want to trouble anyone, but she insisted saying "Oh don't worry, he's a gym buff... so let him skip a day and lift the weights in your place..." so yeah, thanks a lot Christine and Kelvin. You're both such gems! :)

Our new pad - Part II

Since we're doing the moving ourselves, we've decided to load the car up twice a day (or just once if we're really tired) and slowly move stuff in. So we took the stuff that we didn't really need at the old place first!

Plus, it really helped that we got the floor plan of the unit before actually moving in, so we could do a bit of pre-planning to see what could fit where and yadda 3x...

This is the car almost fully loaded.

Our new pad - Part I

So since we've gotten the keys to the new place, we thought we'd start off by cleansing it and moving some stuff over. It's the holiday season and movers are seriously over charging us for that short journey and light load (can't blame 'em) so we kind of have no choice but to do it ourselves.

Thank goodness the pup's got a Volvo 850 T5 :)

The pup got this on his recent trip to Melbourne. It's really so hard to find it here in Malaysia! But yeah, we light this up for cleansing every once in a while

But hey, here's some pictures of our new pad! FYI it's a studio unit (yes it's ONE big room) and it's about 520 sq ft (that's about 55m2 if I'm not mistaken) and we're in a nice neighborhood. My cousin lives two blocks away so that's good, just in case we need anything at the last minute!

This is the view of the bathroom. It's pretty spacious and long. But the shower area is rather small-ish.

This is the kitchenette area. I think this is the only area where I'm most disappointed about because I love to cook and to have such a small space is rather demotivating. We're still thinking of how to arrange everything properly so that we can still cook decent meals without smoking the entire unit!

That's the rest of the place :P Yes we know it's rather small, but then it's pretty much all the space we used in the old place anyways. Bathroom/toilet, bedroom/entertainment room and kitchen!

Keys to the new place :)

Oh this is so exciting...

BUT

when the pup and I went over to set up the TV cabinet and store some stuff... one of the keys broke halfway as we were turning it in the lock! O_o

So we'll have to call a locksmith tmr and see how it goes...

Time for a change

Yup. The pup and I are moving homes. We've always talked about downsizing our unit especially because we don't use the entire apartment... so it's kinda a waste of space.

Anyhoo, we're really really downsizing to a unit which is almost half the size of what we have right now so there are a lot of things we'll need to decide on - keep or donate/recycle/throw?

So it's a very mixed time for the both of us - mentally, emotionally and financially.

Keep your fingers crossed for us and keep your eyes peeled for our moving out sale!!! :)

Bersih 2.0 in pictures (and some words)

Hi... the Pup and I just came back from the Bersih 2.0 rally and are super exhausted from all the running around. But we just had to share our story.

11.30am - Got off the LRT at Masjid Jamek LRT station.

Police were everywhere and checking bags of those who looked suspicious.

12.38 pm - Tension was in the air. We got off the streets and sought safety at Burger King's second floor to avoid any confrontations with the police.

Commuters looked quite confused with the whole scene.

Though some police were just chilling out by the sidelines.

Others had time and patience to help tourists with their maps. Well at least they did one thing right that day. :)

12.52pm - Police started dispersing the small crowd.

Everyone was pushed to the sides or asked to leave the area completely.

By this time, all businesses had locked down their stores so we were trapped inside Burger King. We read on our phones that the rally had already gathered at various parts of Kuala Lumpur at this point. The ones closest to us were at SOGO shopping centre and Puduraya bus terminal.

This convoy of cars, whom we assume was the reason why people were cleared off the roads, were nice enough to stop at the red lights.

1.02pm - Some lawyers (I'm assuming) came on scene.

1.15pm - Journalists and photogs start running towards Masjid Jamek in a frenzy. Probably because the rally from SOGO was on the move.

1.30pm - FRUs lined up right in front of Burger King.

These guys formed a small barricade on Jalan Tun Perak...

... and were pretty much controlled by this clanger dude. So the moment he goes - *clang clang clang*

They run and change formation.

From one side of the road, to the opposite side.

Then the trucks back them up. This reminded me of those RTS video games. Like if a giant cursor clicked on the new position and they formed up accordingly. :)

More FRUs lined up at the back.

Something's started down the road towards Petaling Street and Puduraya that got everyone's attention. I think the chemical water spraying had begun. Everyone started moving towards that direction.

Police with huge zip-ties start to make their way down the street.

2.00pm - They arrested an Indian man for wearing a Bersih 2.0 t-shirt under his shirt.

The guy wasn't even resisting them or trashing around. Yet they had to have a whole army to send him to the detention van.... how efficient!

Police bring out more zip-ties and passes them around like they're candy.

2.35pm - I managed to make my way out of BK after a while but it was already drizzling by this time.

The police know something's really up and send all their FRU troops as well as empty transport trucks (presumably for 'prisoners') down the road.

2.38pm - The police bring down arrested individuals from Pudu area.

2.47pm - The Bersih 2.0 march crosses our paths at Lorong Ampang. We run like the wind to join them.

We were pelted by heavy rain. But that didn't deter our spirits nor resolve!

3.05pm - We converge at a t-junction and join up with another group of marchers. The atmosphere was peaceful and full of energy and patriotism. More importantly, we felt safe amongst our fellow rakyat. We greeted and cheered each other with support and love. There were people from all walks of life - men and women, young and old. We walked, chanting, looking for a way to get to Stadium Merdeka. One of our primary chants was "Hidup hidup, hidup rakyat! Reformasi!" (Long live the people! Reforms!)

Not too long after that, the FRUs came down on us again. We were chased up into Jalan Bukit Nanas, a relatively narrow, uphill street. With us cornered and pleading, the FRU's began shooting tear-gas at us.

The Pup and I were gassed but we were quite prepared with gas masks. Our faces and eyes stung but at least we weren't choking and coughing badly like some of the other folks. We sought refuge at the St John's Cathedral to catch our breaths and wash the chemicals off our hands and faces. We met some fellow Christians there who were also seeking refuge and tried to make sense of the situation.

At 4pm, we headed back down the streets with our new friends only to bump into an even larger group, possible the previous one we were with earlier, that had decided to march up to KLCC because the roads leading to Stadium Merdeka were blocked by police.

4.04pm - We marched on Jalan HS Lee, Jalan Gereja and had then onto Jalan Ampang when we saw this man - rallying with a neck brace. I salute you! The crowd grew at every intersection, pulling more and more supporters while combining with other smaller marches. The streets were filled with people marching, as far the eye can see.

4.16pm - This is us crossing the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

We ploughed down Jalan Ampang until we saw a main group waiting for us at the intersection of Jalan Ampang, Jalan P Ramlee and Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.

4.27pm - We arrive at KLCC. Everyone cheered as our march had finally come to a sensible halt. Everyone began sitting down but rose back up on their feet immediately as someone had initiated singing our national anthem, 'Negaraku'. Power to the Rakyat!

Some speeches were made, though we couldn't hear much of it due to the surrounding ambient noise. But the presence and energy from a large united crowd spoke louder than any words one man can say.

4.43pm - The Police helicopter hovered dangerous low around us. Initially we thought it was just to drown out the speeches but it proved to be a good distraction as the FRUs came charging at us on foot and by trucks from Jln Ampang. Mass panic ensued. We ran to KLCC grounds. I believe this was around the time fellow countryman Baharrudin Ahmad was sadly killed by tear-gas.

4.45 - #Anonymous was with us.

Then it was after this that the FRUs made their final push.

4.47pm - Running for our lives. We witnessed a young girl stumbling and falling from on the hard concrete with a bone crunching thud while police haphazardly tried to grab anyone that was fleeing. It was completely unnecessary chaos.

Most of us laid low at the KLCC park. As it was past the allocated rally time of 4pm and as sensible citizens, we decided our work was done and started planning our journey home. The Pup and I brought extra clothes, so we went to the public restroom to freshen up a bit and change. Many others went to the KLCC park mosque for prayers and reflection. Then we scouted the area only to find the police still heavily surrounding the area. We couldn't even make our way to Ampang Park, where we intended to take the LRT.

5.41pm - The mounted forces were here. We had no idea why they were needed. But that confirmed our suspicion...

...that the police were still on high alert.

And they had boarded KLCC up - so no one could get in or out.

After a while, KLCC's doors opened again and we went in thankful. We had to wait for over an hour for them to reactivate the LRT lines for KLCC.

The Pup and I finally got home safe and sound at about 7pm.

Rained and stomped on, gassed and pushed around - but we're still standing tall and proud. Everyone we met in the march was friendly and peaceful. The only element causing chaos that day, in our better judgement and personal eyewitness accounts, were the police and FRUs. All we wanted to do was get to Stadium Merdeka, as that was our agreed rendezvous point but as we were diverted at every other junction by the FRU we had no choice but to march the streets looking for a sensible, alternative venue. I'll have to admit though, KLCC was a rather fitting location to end our march. Ultimately, the experience was invaluable as we made new friends and partook in a true multicultural event that transcended race, religion, age and class.

To all my brothers and sisters of whom we had the privilege of walking alongside in the rally today - Thank you for being a part of this. Thank you for being the caring Malaysian we know and love. Thank you for your selflessness. Thank you. The Pup and I are truly humbled and honoured to have walked along with you today on this momentous day.

To those that could not have walked with us on that historical and momentous day, we only ask that you share this personal account of the rally with friends and family. We marched non-violently, peacefully, with love and patriotism. Not representing any political party, but as normal Malaysian citizens exercising our constitutional rights. For liberty and democracy. This is the truth.

How do you sleep?

I came across this article today about sleeping styles as a couple and I thought it was pretty interesting. Puppy and I sleep mostly in these two styles...

This is our regular watch telly and snuggle up mode before dozing off. I like this :) Go read the description for this on the link. It's very true! It's been 2 years and 7 months... and we still can't get enough of each other!

p/s: we still hold hands to sleep sometimes

This is our "I need my space" pose I guess. It says in the article, this position signals that we lack connection with each other and suffer from lack of intimacay. We may also be independent in the way we run our lives, that we end up the same between the sheets!

I beg to differ... we do this because... sometimes I like snuggling up to my lumpy (it's this super soft pillow I got from IKEA - it's like sleeping with feathers but it does lump up after getting old) on my side. Plus, sometimes puppy gets a bad back from sleeping on his side too much or with my weight on one side of his body...

What's your sleeping style?

Puppy went to the doc to get his stitches removed just now. Unfortunately, I don't think the doc that stitched him up did very good sutures... because the outside part of the wound was pretty alright but the inner side... has gone all lumpy and still very red-ish

But on the plus point, he's back to eating solids and a regular lifestyle in about 24 hrs time!!! :)

As if battling a fever over New Year's eve wasn't bad enough, puppy's blood pressure dropped in the evening and he just collapsed.

Puppy's chin split because of the pressure and had to be sent to the hospital.

Now, he's got six stitches *war scar* and kinda drugged up on antibiotics and painkillers :P

Puppy has taught Byte how to kiss him. Look how cute she is doing it! All he has to do now is to lean in the playpen and say "Byte, come and give daddy a kiss." and she'll walk over and reach up to kiss him.

Me? Nah, the little ones bully me. But I still love them, oh so much :)

We got a new baby! We picked up this adorable little furry peanut because she was SUCH a curious and brave little piggie.

Instead of a matching name, we decided to name her Ariel, because she's TERRIBLY fearless and curious. The moment we brought her home, instead of cowering in a corner and feeling out of place, she immediately walked around and started to chortle to herself as though she was singing and puppy said "Doesn't she look like she's singing 'Look at these stuff... isn't it neat?' as she walks around the house?"

We decided to get another one because we didn't want Byte to be lonely, plus she's taking to Ariel pretty well :) see...?

We had sent Bit in for minor surgery.

Yes he's a he and not a she after all.

And he is starting to hump Byte.

Neither one of us felt good about sending him in for a snip, but either that or learn to deal with a brood of little piggies... :(

Unfortunately after his surgery, he was naughty and chewed on his stitches and the whole wound got infected. There was nothing much the vet could do.

Our little baby passed away due to post-op complications.

Requiscat in pace little baby.

Even though you were with us for a very short time, you brought SO much joy to our lives with your quick wit and cheekiness.

It's Anzac Day (Lest we forget) so we took the opportunity to just relax at home with the kids. Took them out to the lounge for some chill out time and to let them get to know the house a little better...

I guess they really feel at home already!

Byte found a little corner that she can just sit and not be disturbed.

And Bit found a lot of fun in the bean bag. Look at his smile!

King Daniel.

Long long time ago, in a land far far away, in a time where life was simple and happiness was of the utmost importance, there lived a wise and kind ruler, King Daniel of Crumm.

The sun always shined in the land of Crumm. The townsfolk were as happy as peas and life was as easy as ABC. The people lived so happily and comfortably that any peasant or merchant who has come across the land of Crumm will all agree to the abundance of wonderment and pleasure of the land.

Now you see, the land of Crumm was not at all crummy, despite its name. It was in fact a complete opposite of crummy. It was un-crummy.

The sun shone. The breeze blew. Rain fell. Rainbows laced the skies. Flowers were in abundance across the sprawling green hills. There was laughter and joy everywhere. There was plenty to eat. Plenty to do.

Now, the most magical thing about the Kingdom of Crumm was that King Daniel was blessed with a gift. The Crummers (as they were known to the neighboring lands) ate whatever King Daniel wished to eat.

So if King Daniel wished for roast lamb with mash and peas, everyone ate roast lamb with mash and peas.

Sometimes they even had strawberry jell-o with ice cream for dinner! What joy!

One day, a woman appeared in the kingdom. Her name was Sharr and she was incredibly beautiful, AND she knew it. She ordered the townsfolk to show her the way to the castle as she had some business with the King.

King Daniel fell in love with Sharr immediately. She was beautiful, eloquent, charming and most of all talented. She could recite poems endlessly. She could play almost any musical instrument in the lands. She had the smile of an angel. She even danced like an fairy.

King Daniel immediately proclaimed a royal wedding for him and Sharr. The kingdom rejoiced for their king had finally found a queen.

But what they all didn't know, was that their new Queen Shar, was an evil witch who had cast a spell on the king. Many of the people of Crumm disapproved but the king would not have any of it. He would shun upon any suggestions and comments about his beloved from anybody else.

One day, Queen Shar had left the kingdom, for her own evil intentions, and had promised the king that she would return.

The kingdom rejoiced, as the wretch was finally leaving. King Daniel, being proud, sent his Queen off. Waving with fanfare as the chariot carrying his Queen rode off out the castle gates.

Weeks pass. And all is well in the kingdom.

Months pass. And King Daniel grew restless. There hadn't been any word from Queen Sharr. And any attempts to send messeges out via messengers throughout the lands, met with utter complete failure.

Soon, the King grew more weary. His pride dwindling, his appetite lost. The kingdom began to wither. What once were the sound of rejoices by the people, were now replaced by the sounds of groaning.

It was Hunger. For King Daniel had stopped eating.

Just found this old pic of the pup and I. This was kind of our second day meeting each other. The first day was when I went over to his place to see his pups (he's got 9 dogs at home btw, and 3 of them were 3 month old lab pups... can you imagine the cuteness!!!)

Yeah so the next day I had to take a replacement class at the language centre that I used to teach at... and after that Puppy told me that he'd pick me up and we'll go have some laksa... but then our friends, Michelle and Karen called to go out for a quick catch up... so we did.
